According to the Federal Trade Commission, the cost of identity theft in 2004 reached $50 billion annually.  At the end of 2005, global cybercrime turned over more money than drug trafficking.  US Treasury advisor Valerie McNiven told Reuters, "Last year was the first year that proceeds from cybercrime were greater than proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs, and that was, I believe, over $105bn."  The numbers are obviously much higher today and this is a global problem that impacts all geographies.  Dr. Ron Ben-Natan, one of the world's foremost data security and GRC (Governance, Risk and Compliance) experts explores the issues as they pertain to new telecom, media or computing technologies.
